Højesteret
Højesteret er landets øverste domstol og har til opgave at afklare retstilstanden og sørge for ensretning i straffene.
Højesteret tager ikke stilling til skyldsspørgsmålet - det bliver endeligt afgjort i landsretten. Derimod kan Højesteret tage stilling til, om reglerne er anvendt rigtigt eller ændre straffen.
Det er kun, når en sag er principiel (for eksempel fordi den har betydning for andre sager eller har en særlig samfundsmæssig interesse), at den kan ankes fra landsretten til Højesteret.
Det er Procesbevillingsnævnet, der afgør, om en sag kan behandles i Højesteret.
